Hyundai’s new Sante Fe: Is this the safest SUV ever made?

In 2017 alone Hyundai sold close to 60,000 Sante Fe SUVS, many of which are right here in Australia. This hugely popular SUV has been around for years in its current iteration, and despite its age remains one of the leading offerings in its class.

We loved the older model but we're hugely excited about the all new 2018 Hyundai Sante Fe, which has been redesigned from the wheels up. To help you get familiar with Hyundai's newest SUV we got behind the wheel and got a feel for the car.

One of the safest SUVs in its class

The old Hyundai Sante Fe was a very safe car. In fact, that claim was at the centre of most of Hyundai's advertising for the SUV. The new iteration adopts the same ethos using updated and improved technology.

We couldn't possibly list every way the 2018 Hyundai Sante Fe keeps its passengers safe, but these are the most impressive:

  • Driver attention warning: steering inputs and sounds automatically alert you if your attention wanes whilst driving.
  • Lane Keeping Assist: be gently guided back into your lane if you accidentally drift without indicating.
  • Collision Avoidance Assist: the car will constantly monitor your blind spots and other hazards and provide steering inputs and breaking assistance to prevent collisions.

All of these little touches comprise a whole package that is engineered to keep you and your family safe at all times.

Futuristic but intuitive technology

The 2018 Hyundai Sante Fe is brimming with smart and intuitive technology that makes driving a pleasure. Our favourite feature has to be the Advanced Smart Parking Assist System that does the steering for you when you park, leaving you to handle the gas. It makes fitting into tiny parallel parks under pressure a breeze.

Another nifty feature is compatibility with the new Hyundai Auto Link app that links your smart phone to your car. You can use the app to allow the Hyundai servicing team to remotely monitor your car's running health, to find your car in a busy carpark or to analyse driving habits to become a more economical driver.  The app will also send you alerts if the car detects any faults in itself, as well as reminding you when its time for a service.
