Why we love the new Hyundai Kona
The new Hyundai Kona is a compact SUV with an infectious sense of fun. It's something completely unique from the Korean marque, and in our opinion the striking change in direction has worked wonders. Here are just a few reasons why we're such big fans.
The car senses danger for you
This car is constantly scanning its front and rear, combining camera and radar data to sense hazards such as fast-braking cars and pedestrians. If the driver doesn't respond in time the brakes will slam on automatically to avoid collision.
In fact, If you're swerving in your lane the car will gently correct you, and if the Hyundai Kona senses you're being inattentive at the wheel it'll sound an alert to snap you back to awareness.
Its interior is more luxurious than you'd expect
Hyundai have always made beautiful, functional interiors but the Kona's is a cut above. It's about twice as spacious as it looks, and it comes with attractive accented leather seats that are heated and ventilated for good measure.
There's room in the back for everyone's stuff, and even more if you fold the back seats forward.
It might be the most fun Hyundai yet
A car can be as safe as houses but that means nothing if it's not fun and fast. The Hyundai Kona ticks both of those boxes, thanks to the 1.6 litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine hiding under its hood.
This impressive little powerplant belts out over 174 hp, and cranks around 265 Nm of toque.
It's loaded with technology
Take a look around the cabin of the Hyundai Kona and you'll find just about every piece of smart technology under the sun. There's Apple Car Play and Android Auto so that you can connect your phone to the 7-inch touch screen to play music.
In front of your eyes there's a heads up display that projects a virtual image, including essential information like your speed and fuel level so that you never have to look away from the road. There's also a wireless phone charging pad and keyless push button start.
