Toyota Camry awarded five-star safety rating

January 2012

The Toyota Camry has set an ambitious new standard for all future cars made by the brand by achieving a five-star safety ANCAP safety rating.

Toyota Australia spokesman Mike Breen said the gong has inspired the brand to reach for the stars - literally - when it comes to safety.

He said: "Our plan is to have every model we launch from now onwards capable of achieving a five-star ANCAP result."

The five-star score is a first for a new Toyota Camry - although the media was quick to point out that last year's Toyota Camry achieved the same result after a mid-year safety upgrade.

Eco-conscious drivers will be interested to know that the Toyota Hybrid Camry blends efficiency with plenty of special features, including rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

As standard, its safety features include brake assist, front airbags in both the driver and passenger seats, as well as side airbags in the front seat.

In addition, the Toyota Camry Hybrid comes complete with anti-skid brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control to keep you - and your passengers - safe on Australian roads.
